In Appreciation Of #ShreyaGhoshal , #ArtistSeries

“Ha Magar Yeh Sach Hain,
Mere Bhagwaan Ho Tum!”
(Thode Badmaash Ho Tum, Saawariya)

This line from an iconic song of Shreya Ghoshal probably advocates who she means to me and encapsulates her as a person! Each song, with its various aspects and its audiovisual and narrative use in the film, has a distinct complexion, aura and culture. For a vocalist, the trick is to make a masterpiece out of it.

Being an ardent lover of music and a voracious reader of books on Hindi Film Music, I have been an admirer of Shreya Ghoshal since 2012 (when I was eight years old) and have been in awe of her vocal prowess since then! She has been my ultimate source of inspiration in matters related to music and there is no one quite like her in the Music Industry today who can match her talent and skill.

Modesty and talent is a lethal combination! Despite the abundance of accolades, adulation and recognition; Shreya Ghoshal has remained grounded. Be it the child in her, her quirkiness, her magnanimity, her love for food or her ability to interact with the audience; there is a lot to adore about Shreya. She must be lauded for keeping the essence of Hindustani Classical Music alive and pulsating in a time when it seems to be dwindling.

It is my personal opinion that if one goes to a concert of Shreya Ghoshal, he or she will never feel isolated because of the seemingly effective way in which she engages the audience! You are not merely a spectator in her concert, you are encouraged to sing along and shake a leg too. You will be bombarded with inflections in her songs yet they sound technically flawless! All you need to do is close your eyes and bask in the sheer aural delight.

Shreya Ghoshal has the same glacial beauty as an iceberg! She is a woman of unbounded talents. She is an absolute stunner and never fails to mesmerise her listeners, music aficionados or not. Her impeccably flawless singing in multiple regional languages and numerous genres of Indian Classical Music establishes her claim to the legendary throne of Bollywood female singers of all ages!

Every word that she utters is not just a word, it is an emotion; every song that she sings is not just a song, it is a sensation! It is rare to find a vocalist whose recordings are as impressive as her live performances, and Shreya Ghoshal is probably a master at it. She continues to be the ‘undisputed diva’ of the Contemporary Bollywood Music Industry, and consistently gets singing assignments despite the favoritism that more modern voices seem to get from various music composers.

All I have in my heart for her is affection, respect, appreciation, gratitude and rhapsodies of praise; that augment manifold times every day! She means the universe to me and fills a major vacuum in my life. Without her, my heart would have been partially empty. She fills the dreary chambers of my life with sunshine and happiness. She teaches me so many things unknowingly and indirectly, and I cannot thank her enough for that!

The last time I got an opportunity to experience her live concert was in December, 2018. Since then, there have been no traces of her coming back to perform in Kolkata this year. I just hope that her concert does not clash with my examinations else I shall cry buckets.

With truckloads of love from an adoring fangirl,
Reneeka!
