Veer-Zaara Soundtrack: The Legacy Behind These Masterpieces!

#HappyBirthdayLataji #LataMangeshkar #VeerZaara #MadanMohan #ShahRukhKhan #TereLiye #MainYahaanHoon #DoPal #AisaDesHaiMera #SonuNigam #UditNarayan "The music for Veer-Zaara has a very interesting history. Could you recount what actually happened?" "Madan Mohan ji had written about two hundred songs that were never recorded. And Yash ji knew about this material. When he started Veer-Zaara, Yash ji decided to use some of Madan Bhaiya's music and thought why not ask Sanjeev Kohli, Madan Mohan's son, to work on the idea? Sanjeev went through all the old tapes and selected some tunes and played them to Yash ji. Together, they decided on what would work best for the film, and then we all went into the recording studio. It was nice working on Madan Bhaiya's tunes again. Sanjeev cannot sing the song to explain the tune, but has a great ear for music. He is a perfectionist and understood exactly how to arrange the score with the right instrumentation and orchestration

#SongDecryptionSeries, Kalank Title Track, Arijit Singh

Song: Kalank Title Track Album: Kalank (2019) Artist: Arijit Singh Musician: Pritam Lyricist: Amitabh Bhattacharya #SongDecryption #KalankTitleTrack #ArijitSingh The word ‘kalank’ itself means ‘taint’ or ‘blemish’, but this song intends to show that love is not a ‘stain’, it is ‘kaajal’. (‘Kaajal’ means ‘kohl’, which is applied by Indian women and men to beautify their eyes). I think the only part of the film, Kalank, that has remained with me is its title track. The initial instrumental tune that precedes the vocal helps shape the mood of the song excellently, however, the real magic only begins when Arijit Singh’s voice echoes, bringing you into a trance! Here is my maiden attempt at trying to decrypt the song that has several layers to it. Kalank revolves around the theme of love, illicit love, to be more specific. Whilst the focus is primarily aimed at Roop (Alia Bhatt) and Zafar’s (Varun Dhawan) characters, I somehow saw nuances of the song overlapping with Satya (Sonakshi Sinha)

In Appreciation Of #ShreyaGhoshal , #ArtistSeries

#ArtistSeries #ShreyaGhoshal “Ha Magar Yeh Sach Hain, Mere Bhagwaan Ho Tum!” (Thode Badmaash Ho Tum, Saawariya) This line from an iconic song of Shreya Ghoshal probably advocates who she means to me and encapsulates her as a person! Each song, with its various aspects and its audiovisual and narrative use in the film, has a distinct complexion, aura and culture. For a vocalist, the trick is to make a masterpiece out of it. Being an ardent lover of music and a voracious reader of books on Hindi Film Music, I have been an admirer of Shreya Ghoshal since 2012 (when I was eight years old) and have been in awe of her vocal prowess since then! She has been my ultimate source of inspiration in matters related to music and there is no one quite like her in the Music Industry today who can match her talent and skill. Modesty and talent is a lethal combination! Despite the abundance of accolades, adulation and recognition; Shreya Ghoshal has remained grounded. Be it the child in her, her quirk

RECYCLING IS THE NEED OF THE HOUR!

RECYCLING Recycling is the process of converting useless products which would otherwise be considered trash into useful and beneficial products. Recycling waste products is necessary because it helps us to reduce waste and reuse waste as the waste materials are transformed into useful products. The entire purpose of recycling is to minimise the production of waste in massive quantities and conserve energy as a result. The recyclability of a product depends on its ability to retain or acquire the properties that it possessed in its original state. Thus, recycling is a traditional method which is widely applied by countries all over the world even today. Waste can be recycled in all forms and states, be it solid, or a liquid, or gaseous, or even semi-solid. In the era of urbanisation and industrialisation, all nations, especially the developed countries, produce waste on a large scale. Hence, it is the need of the hour to not only treat the waste but also reduce and reuse it. Recyc

HOW CAN MISLEADING ADVERTISEMENTS DECEIVE THE YOUNG MINDS ADVERSELY?

HOW CAN MISLEADING ADVERTISEMENTS DECEIVE THE YOUNG MINDS ADVERSELY? Advertising has become an indispensable mode of communication with the market. Advertising is the means of communication between the seller of a product and the prospective buyers in the market. Advertising has a huge impact on adults and children alike since it is a form of mass communication. Advertising is the lifeline of marketing and is the mode of promotion of big brands and companies. Nevertheless, the worry lies in the fact that the situation turns catastrophic when advertisements begin to overpower us to the extent that we start indulging in instinctive expenditure. Advertisements and the television especially have a greater impact on the young minds who are puny and vulnerable creatures. Popular celebrities promote big brands and companies by advertising through various media channels such as the television and social media. Youngsters often fail to demarcate between fantasy and reality, and get carrie

CAN THE PHYSICAL BOOK BE REPLACED BY DIGITAL LIBRARIES IN THE CURRENT GENERATION OF E-LITERATURE?

CAN THE PHYSICAL BOOK BE REPLACED BY DIGITAL LIBRARIES IN THE CURRENT GENERATION OF E-LITERATURE? I once read a very oxymoronic quote about books which said, “Everything is stolen in this country, but books are never stolen. Books can never be stolen. Books are rightfully demanded, with the promise of return, which is never complete”. Advancement in science and technology, and heavy reliance on the Internet, have begun to replace physical books as a source of information. Today, traditional methods and practices have begun to take a backseat considering the new era of digitalisation and modernisation that we find ourselves in. However, I may affirm with certainty that physical books cannot be replaced by modern technology but may be used as an alternative because it may be more convenient, more easily accessible and even cost-effective. E-books and digital versions of books, however, cannot totally replace physical books because they are indispensable to gaining knowledge and gathe

ALL ABOUT YOUR CONSTANT BUDDY, MUSIC!

ALL ABOUT YOUR CONSTANT BUDDY, MUSIC!   Music has always been intrinsic to human existence! It is music alone that has kept me insanely sane through these insane and trying times! Besides my house plants, I have always had music to fall back on in times of solitude. Sound has the unique power to heal. Music is synonymous with passion, and solace, and eustress. For me, it is how music makes me feel, and the vibes that it radiates, and the manner in which it helps people to connect and disconnect. Music is the ultimate tranquiliser, and there is nothing quite like music in the entirety of this universe. Here’s wishing all lovers of music, and all who music loves back, a very Happy World Music Day, everyday!

Tere Bina Zindagi Se

Series: Song Decryption Song Title: Tere Bina Zindagi Se Album: Aandhi (1975) Musician: R.D. Burman Vocalists: Lata Mangeshkar, Kishore Kumar Lyricist: Gulzar Some carve poetry out of emotions, some compose music out of poetry, and some create history out of music! However, the quartet comprising Gulzar Saab, Lata Mangeshkar ji, Kishore Kumar Saab and R.D. Burman ji had the prowess to coalesce all the three in a single masterpiece. One such masterpiece is the love anthem, ‘Tere Bina Zindagi Se’, from the film, Aandhi, a 1975 release. Despite the mellifluous duet and the tranquilising accompanying music, I personally feel that one of the prime reasons these songs have stood tall through the corridors of time is the poetic genius behind them. Maybe, I am biased over here because I absolutely adore the intimate lens Gulzar Saab uses to simplify the innumerable intricacies of Human Life. “Tere bina zindagi se koi Shikwa toh nahin, shikwa nahin, Shikwa nahin, shikwa nahin. Tere bina zindagi

Mera Saaya Saath Hoga

#GeetonKiDuniya 'Mera Saaya Saath Hoga' is one of the very few, or perhaps the only Hindi film song that is purely based on Raag Nand. Typically, because of this Raag's similarities with other Raag's like Raag Bihag, it is often used in mixture with other Raag's. For example, Ram Leela's 'Laal Ishq' is a mix of Raag Nand and Raag Bihag. But such is also the difficulty of being able to compose a song purely based on a Raag that resembles so many other Raag's, and is this easy to get confused by, but such is the magic of Madan Mohan and his work. This song is one of the many popular collaborations between Madan Mohan and Raja Mehdi Ali Khan, aside from 'Lag Jaa Gale' and 'Aapki Nazaron Ne' to name a few, and the two shared a wonderful friendship. An ailing Raja Mehdi Ali Khan passed away very soon after the release of 'Mera Saaya', and it is believed that these lines were written to Madan Mohan, as a reminder of their friendship
